Auto-Driving Cars

Adam Waytz, writing for Slate, asks, “Will Americans be able to adapt to the autonomous car?” I’m fascinated by this topic. A self-driving car could make quicker decisions to avoid obstacles and other cars, but sometimes accidents would still happen. I think people will have a terrible time coming to terms with this because they’ll think they could have avoided the accident, and they’ll blame the car company whether or not that’s actually true. Insurance would be incredibly hard to manage because we’ll just have to accept the fact that sometimes your robot car will kill people, even though maybe that’ll happen way, way less often than if humans were still driving.
