I think Apple is going to release a new Apple TV alongside the iPad 3 next week. With a retina display the iPad 3 will be able to show 1080p movies with room to spare. Given that, I can see Apple saying that all HD movies from iTunes will now be (or start to be) available in 1080p. I also expect they’ll expand the current iCloud privilege of being able to redownload purchases to movies and make purchased movies their own section on Apple TV. This will let you see any movie you own in the Apple TV menu (or on the iPad) and you’d be able to stream it at the highest quality your connection can provide. It’s all wishful thinking, but might as well go on record now and see next week.
