Slash: Not Just a Punctuation Mark Anymore

Anne Curzan:

Two weeks ago, one student brought up the word slash as an example of new slang, and it quickly became clear to me that many students are using slash in ways unfamiliar to me.

Having just had a birthday, this was the perfect thing for me to read and think, “wow, I’m getting old. This is an idiotic way for kids to be writing.” Of course language changes all the time and most slang sounds stupid to older ears.
